Stow, MA – Dr. Mary A. Trainor, 88, died Wednesday October 11, 2017 at The Hearthstone Assisted Living Facility in Marlborough, MA, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. 

She leaves a sister, Rita Doering, a recently deceased brother, John Graney, Jr. and numerous loving nephews, nieces, extended family & friends. Born and raised in Lawrence, MA she was the daughter of John and Agnes Graney. 

In her early years, Mary graduated from St. Johns Hospital School of Nursing, Lowell, MA.  She then went on to earn her BSN, from The Catholic University of America, School of Nursing in Washington D.C.  After receiving her MSN in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing, she would later go on to earn a PhD in Psychology from The Catholic University of America, School of Education Counseling Program.

Dr. Trainor was a Professor of clinical nursing at George Mason University and practiced family counseling in Washington, D.C.  She also was an Assistant Professor, at Georgetown University School of Nursing. 

Mary loved to travel the world, returning with exciting stories of her many adventures, along with meaningful gifts for everyone in her life. She participated in and facilitated numerous Catholic retreats and spent vacations and holidays with her loving family and friends. 

Dr. Trainor had a passion for helping the less fortunate. She spent the majority of her retirement raising money and making sure the homeless men at the Christ House in Washington, D.C. were cared for, well-fed, & clothed.  In addition, she was greatly involved in mentoring young believers and teaching them about the power of prayer.   She will be remembered most for her abiding faith, beautiful smile, sense of humor and contagious laugh. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday October 27th at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Isidore, 529 Great Road, Stow. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Gleasondale Road, Stow.
