West Boylston - Janet A. (Geyer) (Cameron) Laverdure, 84, formerly of Marlborough, was at home with family as she peacefully returned to God’s glorious kingdom on Friday February 16, 2018. Janet was born, raised and educated in Newton. She was the daughter of the late Charlton and Margaret (Burns) Geyer and was in the graduating class of 1951 at Newton South High School. She married Leonard J. Cameron in 1958. As one of ten siblings, it’s no surprise that she and Lenny had nine children of their own and raised them with love and humility until Lenny’s passing in 1986.
Janet had an incredible work ethic. She was a waitress at the Marlborough Country Club, a legal secretary at Morse, Morte and Rowe, and later worked for Digital Equipment Corporation as an administrative assistant for many years, retiring in 1998.
She was remarried in 1993 to Donald Laverdure, who died last year. Janet had a passion for theatre. She was involved in numerous community theatre productions including many plays with Elderkind Theatre with her late husband Donald. Janet had an incredible laugh and sense of humor. She had a one-liner for every situation and had doctors and nurses laughing even in her weakest moments. She was a fighter, courageously battling and beating cancer twice.
Spending time at the beach was her refuge. Nothing made her happier except family. She had a soft spot for babies and animals. She even adopted Boots, a rescue dog from St. Thomas, a few months ago.
Janet was a woman of incredible strength who loved “her people” fiercely and was the very definition of amazing grace. She instilled a strong sense of faith and integrity in her children and grandchildren, which was perhaps her greatest gift to them.
She leaves four daughters: Lauren (Bill) Eheman of Sarasota, FL, Lisa (Alan) Wessell of Sterling, Lynne (Pat) Drzik of West Boylston, Sandra McFarland of Sanford, ME; five sons: Timothy (Tammi-jo) Cameron of Sanbornville, NH, Daniel (Patty) Cameron of Warwick, RI, Bruce (Christine) Cameron of Hudson, Neil (Kathryn) Cameron of Kettering, OH and Glen (Jeni) Cameron of Wilmington; three siblings: Donald Geyer of El Paso, TX, Robert McGough of Townsend and Linda Grace of Lincolnville, ME; twenty one grandchildren: Crystal, Sean, Shannon, Dannie, Carrie, Joseph, Tessah, Trever, Shanelle, Luke, Brendan, Jessica, Michael, Nicole, Robert, Adam, Elizabeth, Kayla, Erica, Christina and Ciara; fourteen great grandchildren: Jackson, Jameson, Avery, Grant, Luke Jr., Cameron, Emily, Tyler, Jadelyn, Aiden C., Aiden L., Malakai, Callie and Brandon; many nephews, nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by her siblings, Berniece, Kay, Pegi, Chuck, Norm and Cliff.
Calling hours will be held Friday February 23 from 5-8 p.m. in the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.CollinsFuneral.com), 378 Lincoln Street in Marlborough. A Celebration of Janet’s life will be held Saturday February 24 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
