Marlborough:  Sister Rose Clarisse (Pauline) Gadoury (87), a Sister of St. Anne, died in this city, Thursday, January 12, 2017 in UMASS Marlborough Hospital. Born in Dudley, MA, she was the tenth surviving child of Emilien and Rosanna (St. Martin) Gadoury.  She attended St. Anne School in Webster and the former St. Anne Academy (Marlborough), earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Anna Maria College (Paxton), and a MA from Duquesne University and a Doctoral degree in ministry from Boston University, School of Theology and received an Honorary Doctorate in Education from Anna Maria College. She joined the Sisters of St. Anne in Lachine, Quebec in 1949, pronounced vows in 1950 and returned to New England to begin teaching.  She taught music and religion in schools staffed by the Sisters of St. Anne in Newton MA and in Worcester (Holy Name High School). She also became the Director of Novices and Postulants in Marlborough, and the Director of Formation and Spiritual Animation in the American province. She also was a liturgist, choir director and musician. An engaging lecturer, she led programs and retreats in parishes in the Archdiocese of Boston and the Diocese of Worcester as well as facilitating individual and group spiritual direction. In the ensuing years, Sister Rose Clarisse was a lecturer and spiritual director in the formation programs for the LaSalle Brothers and for the Friars Minor.  She was a Professor for the Permanent Diaconate Program in the Diocese of Worcester and for nearly 20 years, a Professor of Pastoral Theology in Spirituality at St. John XXIII National Seminary and served on several seminary committees.  She was an adjunct Professor at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton. Sister Rose Clarisse was a Director of the Associates Program for the Sisters of St. Anne, a lecturer at various Poor Claire Monasteries on the East coast, as well as a lecturer for the Office of Spiritual Development, the Permanent Diaconate Program and the Master Teachers’ Program of the Archdiocese of Boston. She was a member of the Advisory Board for the Vicar for Religious, and the Office of Pastoral Ministries in the Archdiocese of Boston. She served as a member of the Bishop’s Pastoral Care Committee for Sexual Abuse for the Diocese of Worcester. For many years, Sister was a valued trustee at Anna Maria College, a chair of various trustee committees and a member of the Board’s Executive committee.  Sister Rose Clarisse was predeceased by her five sisters and four brothers.  She leaves numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.  They grieve this loss as will the Sisters of St. Anne and Sister Rose’s many friends and colleagues.

Her wake will be Wednesday, January 18, from 2 to 4 p.m., at St. Anne Convent, 720 Boston Post Road East, Marlborough, with a prayer service at 4:00. The wake will continue from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, January 19 at 10 a.m. at the Convent Chapel.  Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlborough.
