Marlborough- Joan Viens, 93 passed away peacefully on Saturday September 30, 2017. Joan was born in Maynard, the daughter of the late Loreto and Mary (Cuozzo) Arcieri and was a graduate of Maynard High School Class of 1941.  Joan was the beloved wife to the late Normand “Chippy” Viens of Marlborough who died on May 13, 2001.  The two would settle in Marlboro Massachusetts for almost 40 years.  Joan was an active member of the former Saint Ann’s Church in Marlborough and was a devote Catholic never missing Mass.  She enjoyed extensive traveling to many places near and far with her husband and family, was an avid reader, and was an active member of The Red Hat Society. She also worked at Rich’s Department Store in Marlborough for several years.  

Joan had a passion for taking arts and crafts including ceramic classes where she was proud of her staple “hand painted by Joan Viens” inscription on all of her finished ceramic projects.  Joan mostly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures of raising a family and spending time with her siblings and their family.  

Joan enjoyed participating in crafts, attending concerts, movies, bingo, and gathering with her friends.  

She leaves a son Richard Viens and his wife Christine of Quincy; a daughter Cynthia Viens-Giovannucci of Shrewsbury and her husband Randy; two grandchildren, Marissa Viens and Ross Giovannucci; her brother Robert Arcieri and sister in law Barbara Arcieri of Milford, New Hampshire; brother in law Jack Alzapiedis of Clinton and many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by her beloved sister Mary Arcieri; her beloved two brothers Tony and Eddie Arcieri.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 10 at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect Street, Marlborough. Burial will follow in St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Great Road, Maynard. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Massachusetts/New Hampshire 309 Waverly Oaks Road Waltham, MA 02452 (www.alz.org).
